False witness

False witness

False witness is a crime in which you can give false testimony, silence the truth, or present a false written statement to a court or other authority. If you give false testimony, criminal proceedings may be instituted against you. The punishment for a false written statement is up to 3 years in prison, and for false testimony the sentence is up to 5 years in prison. If you are arraigned as a defendant and do not tell the truth for the reason that you may convict yourself of a crime, you are not legally liable to testimony for perjury. Of course, if you plead guilty, you will be punished for the crime you are being tried. The law gives you the power to decide whether you want to testify about a crime committed by your relative - parents, children, brother or sister, wife, spouse. When someone incites you to testify, they will be punished by probation or imprisonment for up to 1 year. You have the right to withdraw the false testimony you have given, but you must do so before the sentence or judgment has entered into force and before criminal proceedings have been instituted against you for perjury.
