The Ministry of Finance is preparing a mini-tax on taxes next year.

 

The package of law changes published by the Ministry of Finance will lead to serious shifts in the taxation of owners of movable and immovable property, writes Sega.

 

Bad news is for the owners of more than one home. They will lose the 50% discount they use for their main home tax. Under the current Local Taxes and Fees Act, every Bulgarian is entitled to this reduction regardless of his or her well-being. Vladislav Goranov's office now offers the relief to stay only for the one-man-living. This means that for all the rest of next year the tax liability for the main apartment (or house) will double. The MF's logic is that the richer do not need preferences. In addition, there have been many cases of abuse when the owner of apartments in different municipalities declares each of them as the main home to pay taxes in half. If the information systems of the municipal tax offices were linked, frauds of this type would not be possible, but unfortunately, e-government in Bulgaria is building too slowly.

 

 

Another group of changes concerns the taxation of motor vehicles. The tax on older cars will jump from next year, and new ones that meet the highest eco-standards will fall. For this purpose, the finance ministry offers a new formula for calculating the levy. It will now include two components - besides the one that records the power and the year of production of the car, it will also be environmentally friendly. So our country meets the recommendations for a change in tax legislation to encourage renewal of the fleet and the use of environmentally friendly vehicles.

 

Under the current formula based on power and age of the car, the newer the car, the higher the tax. With a catalyst and a high ecological standard, drivers benefit from a 30-60% discount, but new cars are taxed more salariously. The finance ministry offers six new power ranges for cars with corresponding upper and lower tax rates, while preserving the principle of "the more powerful, the higher the rate." There are changes in the coefficients for the year of the car. The lowest is the coefficient for the cars between the ages of 15 and 20 - 1. For the more than 20-year-old he is 1.1, between 10 and 15 - 1.3, 5 and 10 - 1.5 and 5 y - 2.3. As you can see, the most favorable position is the car drivers between 15 and 20 years old. The more recent cars are also more favorable because the offered coefficient is lower than the current one. "The proposal aims to stimulate the removal of older cars from use and their replacement with newer and more environmentally friendly cars. Those over 20 years are unreliable, require high maintenance costs and cause major air pollution, "the finance ministry said. According to the traffic police, 66% of the cars in Bulgaria are aged over 15

 

Because of the inclusion of the "green" factor in the tax formula next year, the relief for a catalyst device will disappear. This measure will also address the problem of frauds that drivers say the vehicle has a catalyst, but in fact it has been removed, the finance ministry said. And since it is difficult to find out whether a catalytic converter is operating, many drivers are cheating to reduce the charge without the car compliant with environmental standards.

 

The Finance Ministry has not provided estimates of how much the charge for the different groups of cars will increase or decrease. Calculations at money.bg show that the old car tax may jump by 20%.
