Lavrov The dollar's days are counted
August 14, 2018
The dollar days as a standard currency in international trade are counted.
This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, quoted by Reuters, after meeting with Turkish counterpart Mevluth Chavushoglu in Ankara.
Russia's first diplomat reported that Moscow is discussing the possibility of using national currencies in bilateral trade with Turkey, China and Iran.
The foreign minister also said that Washington's increased import duties and economic sanctions against Ankara and Moscow are an unfair means in global trade.
At the end of last week, Turkey's currency crisis deepened sharply after it became clear that there was no hope of resolving disputes between Ankara and Washington soon. Within a day, the pound lost at least 14 of its value, and dozens of exchange bureaus in the Istanbul metropolitan area closed or swapped up to 100 because they had no local currency available, world agencies reported. This is the biggest drop in Turkey's national currency since the financial crisis in 2001.
